Is your honey organic or glyphosate free?

Due to the process of turning nectar into honey by insects (honeybees), there’s no way to be 100% sure that the bees have not encountered some type of pesticide.  Therefore, we cannot claim organic honey.  However, there are no agricultural growing operations in our area, therefore, there is minimal glyphosate being applied to crops and nectar/pollen sources.

Do your beekeepers feed sugar to their bees?

We feed our honeybees sugar syrup (sugar mixed with water) in winter and early spring.  This is to give the honeybees a much-needed boost when there is no nectar available. Feeding is halted once nectar flows and honey is being produced!

How can I test the quality of my honey?

There are many simple ways to test the quality of your honey.

Does honey expire?

If honey stays in an airtight sealed jar, honey should store indefinitely.  However, it’s important to check to see if any impurities have developed. Signs of mold or strange smell probably means the honey was compromised and should be thrown out.

How do I store my Honey?

Honey should be kept above 75 degrees F to prevent crystallization. We recommend keeping honey on a counter near the stove in the kitchen. Refrain from storing it in the back of a cabinet near an exterior wall that might get cold in winter.

Why does the jar of honey I recently purchased taste/look different than last time?

Honey will change color/taste/consistency based on the time of year it was harvested.  This is due to the different pollen and nectar sources available at the time the honey was made by the honeybees.
